Channel Notes for YouTube stores the notes you write on your own computer. If — and only if — you choose to connect Google Drive, it also copies those notes into a private folder inside your own Google Drive that only this extension can see.
The developer operates no server and does not receive or maintain a copy of your notes. Your data is not sold or used for advertising, analytics, or tracking. If you enable Google Drive sync, the extension sends the necessary sync data only to Google Drive to provide that feature.
Everything below is written to chrome.storage.local, which is browser storage on your own device.

About the video URL. The extension does not track your browsing. It records one URL — the video page you happened to be on at the moment you saved a note — and it stores it only for channels you have actually written a note about. Nothing is recorded for channels or videos you merely visit.
The extension does not contact developer-operated servers. When Google Drive sync is enabled, it communicates only with Google services required for authentication and Google Drive AppData synchronization.
Drive sync is off until you turn it on. If you connect it:
What is uploaded. A single file named channel-notes-vault.json, containing your channel notes
and the channel information needed to associate those notes with the correct YouTube channels in
Google Drive’s hidden appDataFolder. Deleted-note markers may also be stored so deletions can synchronize across devices.
What is not uploaded. Your email address and extension display settings are not written into the file. Nothing is uploaded to anywhere other than your own Drive.
The use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
If you connect Drive, the extension reads the Google account you are signed in to in Chrome, using Chrome’s own identity service. It keeps two pieces of information on your device:
Authentication is handled via Chrome identity; the extension never accesses, receives, or stores your Google password.
The developer does not sell your data or share it with third parties for advertising, analytics, profiling, or unrelated purposes. If you enable Google Drive sync, the extension transmits the necessary sync data to Google solely to provide that feature.
Your notes and extension settings remain stored locally until you delete them or uninstall the extension.
If Google Drive sync is enabled, deleting a note removes its note text from the synchronized data. A deletion marker may remain so the deletion can be synchronized to other devices. Uninstalling or disconnecting the extension does not automatically delete data stored in Google Drive AppData. You can remove that data separately through Google Drive’s app management settings.
The developer does not maintain a separate copy of your data on developer-operated servers.
Communication with Google Drive uses HTTPS. Google Drive access is authorized using an OAuth access token obtained through Chrome’s Identity API. The extension does not separately store OAuth tokens in its own persistent storage.
Notes stored on your device remain in Chrome’s local extension storage. The extension does not provide additional encryption for locally stored notes, so anyone with access to your unlocked computer and Chrome profile may be able to access them.
This extension is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
If this policy changes, the effective date at the top will be updated and the revised version will be published at the same location. Material changes will be noted in the extension’s release notes.
